1. Walk the gorgeous volcanic coast
One of the best ways to soak in the natural beauty of Jeju Island is by walking along the Olleh hiking trail that winds mostly along the coast. It’s a massive walk that you can spend a couple of weeks doing, but if you’re not that committed, just take an afternoon to stroll along a section. You'll be treated to breathtaking views of the azure waters and rugged cliffs. If you walk the trail near Jeju City in the summer, you’ll find it packed with tourists, but once you get away from town, you’ll find tranquility and solitude.
2. Delve into folklore at Yongyeong Pond and Yongduam Rock.
To discover an intriguing local legend not far from the heart of Jeju City, cross the footbridge over Yongyeon Pond to reach Yongduam Rock. According to folklore, this dragon-shaped rock was once a mighty dragon that came out of the sea, met its end, and was transformed into stone. It may not look particularly spectacular at first glance, but take a moment to appreciate the unique rock formation and ponder the significance of the story that has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries if not millennia.
3. Bask in turqoise waters at Gimnyeong beach
A short bus ride from Jeju City you’ll find the mesmerizing white sand beach and traditional fishing village of Gimnyeong. Spend a leisurely day here: bask in the sun, take a refreshing dip in the clear waters, or savor a cup of coffee at one of the cozy seaside cafes. Don't forget to explore the village's winding stone-walled streets lined with charming, traditional stone homes, which offer a glimpse into the island's traditional, fishing-and-farming-based way of life.

4. People watch at sunset by the seawall
If you’re in Jeju City when the sun begins to set and the heat of the day starts to fade, grab some takeout food for dinner and head to the steps by the sea wall to eat. Holiday-makers from all over South Korea come here to ride bikes, stroll, go fishing, and just hang out. In summer, the sky glows red, the horizon lights up with the glare of hundreds of prawn-fishing boats, and the airliners filled with tourists roar in to land. Watch dating couples flirt, kids zig-zagging around each other on bikes, toddlers getting covered in ice cream, and tap your foot to the thumping K-pop. It’s magic!
5. Take in the serene Cheonwang Temple and Hallasan forest
For a spiritual and serene experience, take a bus from Jeju City up the side of Halla Mountain to visit Cheonwang Temple. Nestled amidst lush forests, this magnificent Buddhist temple exudes tranquility and offers breathtaking views of the forested mountains. Take your time to explore the temple grounds, admire the intricate architecture, and perhaps even sit and meditate to find inner peace.
